Roughly 6 months later, after a couple of house moves, some horseback riding, and lots of other things, Darryl has clearly managed to achieve the nicest wear & tear and is therefore our lucky winner of honour and glory. And possibly a drink next time we meet up. These jeans look really nice...
Here are a couple of pointers I just sent to an Australian friend...
Ok, so the competition was about NOT washing the jeans for 6 months but they were badly stained so there wasn't much of an alternative. The competition is still on.
Some abrasions are beginning to take shape on the fly. This obviously happens because the buttons protrude and expose the fabric to more intense wear. The type of button we use probably speeds this process up, as the outer ring slopes upward/outward and therefore has a relatively marked and limited circular contact area (see second photo below).
At the corner of the left front pocket, where I carry my card holder, the fabric is beginning to break up as a natural result of concentrated wear. This is a good thing, as it will probably require some mending further down the road, adding more character to the jeans.
A pattern from coins is beginning to emerge. I usually keep change in the coin pocket and use it for coffee at Piccolino.
After a couple of months, my jeans are beginning to look pretty nice although a lot remains to be done. You can see some contrasts developing. Progress is a bit slow but there are still several months to go.
Here you see some whiskers emerging around crotch as well as some markes at the front pockets. There fabric is also becoming lighter on the knees.
The back of the knees exhibit significant creasing and noticable whiskers.

Spent the weekend doing some outdoorsy work which helps the wear & tear but they're still more dirty than worn so there's a lot left to do.

Getting dirty
Need to brush them off to remove some of the dust that's accumulating in places
